Bury Volunteer Service aims to promote volunteering and encourage people to get involved in local opportunities. It:  

• Promotes the benefits of volunteering
• Recruits, supports and signposts volunteers to suitable placements
• Provides training, information and support on the management of volunteers
• Identifies and promotes volunteering opportunities on behalf of local groups
• Supports organisations who involve volunteers and encourages the sharing of good practice in the management of volunteers
• Advertises volunteering opportunities on the National Volunteering Database http://www.do-it.org.uk/ 

What is volunteering?

Volunteering is about giving as much or as little time freely to help other people, the local community or the environment.  As well as making a difference in your community it can be a great way of meeting new people, learning new skills and putting existing ones to a good cause! Anyone can volunteer and everyone has something to offer!

Volunteers are not paid for the work that they do, although they should be reimbursed for any out of pocket expenses incurred whilst volunteering.

• Befriending and mentoring
